This bubbly is punching well above its weight. To see a prosecco in the Halliday Top 100 Wines is pretty much unheard of, factoring in 95pts, a 4.1 Vivino score and a price-point like this, we're very much in new territory. A game-changer.

Why do we love this wine?

Victoria's King Valley is undeniably Australia's home of prosecco. Boasting many waves of Italian immigration and a climate almost identical to that of the Prosecco region of Veneto, it's really no surprise that the King is creating wines that can go toe-to-toe with the Italian stuff. This delightful drop is no exception, functionally dry, with subtle notes of pear, stone fruit and citrus blossom. A wonderfully balanced acidity couples with a zesty, light, crisp mouthfeel to create a wine that is both textural and light. An absolute winner. For this price, you can't go wrong.

Frequently Asked Questions

King Valley's unique combination of Italian heritage and terroir makes it Australia's premier prosecco region. Multiple waves of Italian immigration brought traditional winemaking knowledge, while the valley's climate mirrors that of Veneto's Prosecco DOCG region. The cool nights and warm days create ideal conditions for developing the delicate aromatics and crisp acidity that define quality prosecco, allowing Australian producers to craft wines that rival their Italian counterparts.

Unlike Champagne's traditional method with secondary fermentation in bottle, prosecco uses the Charmat method where secondary fermentation occurs in pressurised tanks. This preserves the fresh, fruity character you'll find in this wine - those lovely pear and citrus blossom notes. The result is a lighter, more approachable sparkling wine with fine bubbles and vibrant fruit flavours, perfect for casual celebrations or aperitifs.

Serve this prosecco well-chilled at 6-8°C in flute or tulip glasses to concentrate the delicate aromatics and maintain the fine bubble structure. The wine's crisp, light profile makes it excellent as an aperitif or paired with light seafood, fresh cheeses, or fruit-based desserts. Its balanced acidity and subtle stone fruit notes also complement Asian cuisine beautifully, particularly dishes with ginger or citrus elements.

Functionally dry indicates this prosecco contains minimal residual sugar - typically under 12g/L - making it taste completely dry on the palate despite having slightly more sugar than a true brut. This small amount of residual sugar enhances the wine's texture and rounds out the natural acidity without adding noticeable sweetness. It's the perfect balance for showcasing the pear and citrus flavours while maintaining that crisp, refreshing character.

The 95-point Halliday rating and Special Value Award reflect this prosecco's exceptional quality-to-price ratio and technical excellence. James Halliday's recognition highlights the wine's perfect balance of fruit expression, acidity, and texture - qualities that demonstrate King Valley's potential for world-class prosecco production. The Top 100 inclusion and strong Vivino rating from consumers confirm that this wine delivers both critical acclaim and drinking pleasure.
