The name Ileach (pronounced Eee-luhk), is what the Islay natives call themselves, and what a fitting name indeed - this single malt is Islay through and through. Sourced from a secret Islay distillery, it has been independently bottled by the Vintage Malt Whisky Company. There might be a bit of mystery around the source of this single malt, but it is clearly a fiesty, young Islay whisky with plenty of punch. There ain't no mucking about here, mofo, this is one peaty dram.

Why do we love this whisky?
Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible said of the Ileach, "A thick chunk of peat has been dissolved in my glass. The oil-peat-barley balance is spot on, as is the bitter-sweet tone: just stunning."
There are many rumours about the origins of this peaty young thing, with the most credible pointing towards a young single malt from Lagavulin Distillery. The independent bottler behind the Ileach range is the Vintage Malt Company Co Ltd, and they apparently entered into a long-term contract with Lagavulin back in the day, before the single malt boom had hit. This little historical tid-bit sure adds a certain air of authoritative weight behind those rumours... but whatever the origins of the liquid inside the bottle, the Ileach is incredible value for an everyday Islay sipper.
