The Nàdurra range, from the Gaelic word for “natural”, is The Glenlivet’s range of small-batch expressions made using traditional 19th-century techniques – It's all about showcasing the whisky in all it's natural glorly. The First Fill additionally showcases the glory of first fill American white oak casks, ie, virgin oak casks that have never been used to mature whisky before ...and that end result? Glorious.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this whisky?

This 1000ml version has been bottled, without any chill-filtration or additional colours, and at much more approachable (and smooth) 48%. There's plenty to love about this special release, and if you've enjoyed Nadurra in its previous incarnations, then get excited as this promises to be one of the best yet. Its matured entirely in first-fill American white oak casks, which distillers at Glenlivet have favoured since the early 1900s. The reason they love these first fill casks so much? The amazing flavour they impart! Hints of creamy vanilla are beautifully complemented by sweet pear, tropical pineapple, ripe banana and even a citric sparkle. It’s also very richly textured and creamy on the palate, as unlike many modern whiskies, this one is non-chill filtered.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Nadurra range represents Glenlivet's commitment to natural whisky-making, bottled without chill-filtration or artificial colouring at a robust 48% ABV. This preserves the whisky's natural oils and proteins, creating a richer mouthfeel and more intense flavour profile than their standard expressions. The non-chill filtered approach means you might notice slight cloudiness when water is added, which is actually a sign of quality and authenticity.

First-fill American oak casks have never held whisky before, so they impart maximum flavour compounds like vanillin and tannins from the charred wood. These casks contribute the signature creamy vanilla, tropical fruit, and citrus notes found in this expression. Glenlivet has favoured this maturation style since the early 1900s because American oak's wider grain structure allows for optimal interaction between spirit and wood, creating the distillery's characteristic smooth and fruity profile.

At 48% ABV, this whisky has enough strength to handle a splash of water, which will open up the tropical fruit and spice notes while maintaining the creamy texture from non-chill filtration. Serve neat in a Glencairn glass or add a few drops of room temperature water to release the pear, pineapple, and vanilla aromatics. The medium body and rich texture make it perfect for slow sipping, allowing the cinnamon and nutmeg spices to develop on your palate.

The tropical fruit notes and vanilla sweetness make this whisky excellent with desserts like crème brûlée, apple tart, or dark chocolate. The cinnamon and nutmeg spices also complement savoury dishes like roasted pork with apple sauce or aged cheeses. The creamy, medium-bodied texture won't overpower lighter foods, while the 48% strength provides enough intensity to stand up to richer flavours like caramelised onions or honey-glazed ham.

The 1L format is relatively uncommon for premium single malts, as most are bottled in standard 700ml sizes. This larger format offers better value for whisky enthusiasts and collectors, providing more liquid to enjoy while maintaining the same quality. The 1L size also suggests this is a special or limited release, as distilleries typically reserve this format for expressions they want to make more accessible to serious whisky drinkers who appreciate the extra volume.
