Why do we love this whisky?

(Only one bottle per person due to limited qualities, any additional orders will be automatically canceled)

The Character of Islay Whisky Company takes inspiration from the Hebridean island’s landscape, culture and inhabitants. The first release in their range was Aerolite Lyndsay, the talk of the town during the 2019 Islay whisky festival. It had whisky aficionados buzzing, and for good reason! Then, in 2020, they doubled down with a duo of stunners: Grace Île and Fiona Macleod. The latter pays homage to the brilliant 19th-century poet William Sharp—how’s that for a literary twist?

But let’s not stop there! That same year, they launched The Stories of Wind & Range series, diving even deeper into the tales of Islay. Each bottle is a sip of history, wrapped in liquid gold.

Now, let’s get to the pièce de résistance: a 33-year-old single malt that’s been resting in barrels longer than some of us have been alive! Picture this: a delightful dance of smoke, mature oak, and a splash of tropical fruit that’ll have you wondering if it’s Bowmore in your glass.

So, whether you’re a seasoned whisky enthusiast or just starting your journey, these expressions are not just drinks; they’re experiences. Cheers to Islay, and may your glass never be empty!

Frequently Asked Questions

Three decades of maturation allows the whisky to develop extraordinary complexity that younger spirits simply cannot achieve. The extended barrel ageing mellows harsh edges while concentrating flavours, creating layers of mature oak, tropical fruit, and refined smoke that dance harmoniously on the palate. This extended maturation period also means significant evaporation loss (the angel's share), making each remaining drop incredibly precious and concentrated.

This 33-year-old expression represents an extremely limited release from The Character of Islay, with only a finite number of bottles available worldwide. Given the whisky's age and the time investment required to create it, along with its gold medal recognition, demand far exceeds supply. The purchase restriction ensures fair distribution among whisky enthusiasts and prevents hoarding by collectors or resellers.

Islay's unique maritime environment profoundly shapes this whisky's profile through decades of coastal maturation. The island's salty sea air, peat bogs, and Atlantic storms all contribute to the spirit's development, infusing it with the characteristic smoky notes while the ocean's influence adds mineral complexity. The Character of Islay specifically draws inspiration from the Hebridean landscape, making this expression a liquid embodiment of the island's wild, untamed character.

The whisky's medium body and complex flavour profile of smoke, citrus, and tropical fruit makes it versatile for pairing with rich, savoury dishes. Consider serving alongside smoked salmon, aged cheeses, or dark chocolate desserts to complement the smoky elements. The citrus notes also pair beautifully with seafood dishes or even spicy cuisine, where the whisky's maturity can balance heat while its fruit character enhances the meal's complexity.

Serve this exceptional single malt neat or with just a few drops of room temperature water to unlock its full aromatic potential - avoid ice which can mute the complex flavours developed over 33 years. Store the bottle upright in a cool, dark place away from temperature fluctuations to preserve its integrity. Once opened, consume within 1-2 years for optimal flavour, as extended exposure to air will gradually diminish the whisky's carefully balanced character.
