Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this whisky?

From the Hills of the beautiful Ardenne region, created using the world famous water of the Saône River and aged in highly graded french oak barrels (of course). The use of peat is present and persistent but does not overwhelm other flavours or steal the spotlight whatsoever. The warmth and generosity of this whisky is really the biggest take away from this classy drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

French whisky like this Amaethon represents a newer tradition that combines Celtic whisky-making heritage with distinctly French terroir. The use of Saône River water and French oak barrels creates a unique flavour profile that's often more wine-influenced than its Celtic counterparts. French distilleries also tend to experiment more with local ingredients and aging techniques, resulting in whiskies that bridge the gap between traditional whisky regions and French winemaking expertise.

The Ardenne region's approach to peating creates a more subtle smokiness compared to heavily peated Islay whiskies. This restrained use allows the peat to add complexity and depth while letting the French oak's vanilla and spice notes, plus the caramel and apricot flavours, shine through. The result is a balanced dram where smoke enhances rather than dominates, making it accessible to both peat lovers and those new to smoky whiskies.

Body weight refers to the whisky's texture and mouthfeel rather than flavour intensity. This Amaethon achieves a light, elegant texture through careful distillation and the influence of French oak, which tends to be less tannic than American oak. The peat adds aromatic complexity without creating the heavy, oily mouthfeel associated with some heavily peated whiskies, resulting in a refined, approachable drinking experience.

A 95-point score from the IWSC represents exceptional quality, placing this whisky in the top tier of international spirits. The IWSC is one of the most respected competitions globally, with expert judges evaluating appearance, aroma, taste, and finish. This rating suggests the Amaethon demonstrates outstanding craftsmanship, complexity, and balance - remarkable for a French whisky competing against established Scottish and Irish distilleries.

Given its light body and complex flavour profile featuring apricot, caramel, and oak notes, this whisky is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open up the aromas. Serve at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass to concentrate the subtle peat smoke and fruit notes. The warmth and generosity mentioned in its profile make it perfect for contemplative sipping, allowing you to explore how French terroir expresses itself in whisky form.
