This is a blood-orange, maraschino cherries, old-fashioned-cocktail of a single malt whisky. The aroma transports you to an underground speakeasy where jazz fusion harmonises with muffled conversation.

Why do we love this whisky?

A collaboration with South Australia’s award-winning Main & Cherry wines, these American oak casks held tempranillo sourced from the Adelaide Hills, before being re-coopered and given a medium toast and char to integrate our spirit into the wine and the wood.

This exceptional whisky is a meticulously crafted marriage of approximately a baker's dozen casks, each hand-selected for their distinct flavour profiles. Representing a diverse range of oak and wine varietal finishes, this limited edition expression offers a unique blend of deliciously dark fruit notes and complex 'spice rack' flavours. Experience the unparalleled craftsmanship and exquisite taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

This whisky undergoes a distinctive double-maturation process using American oak casks that previously held tempranillo wine from Adelaide Hills vineyards. After the wine aging, the casks are re-coopered and given a medium toast and char, which allows the whisky to absorb both the residual wine characteristics and the enhanced wood flavours. This collaboration with Main & Cherry wines creates a complex interplay between the spirit, wine remnants, and toasted oak that's rarely found in traditional whisky production.

The baker's dozen of hand-selected casks creates a symphony of complementary flavours rather than a single dominant note. Each cask contributes different characteristics based on its previous wine contents and oak treatment, resulting in layers of dark fruit complexity alongside what the distillery calls 'spice rack' flavours. This batching technique, common in premium whisky production, ensures consistency while maintaining the nuanced depth that only comes from marrying multiple maturation environments.

Tasmania's cool, maritime climate provides ideal conditions for whisky maturation, with temperature fluctuations that encourage gentle interaction between spirit and wood. The island's pristine environment and access to high-quality barley, combined with its growing reputation as Australia's whisky heartland, makes it an exceptional terroir for craft distilling. Tasmanian whiskies have gained international recognition for their distinctive character, often displaying more delicate and complex profiles than their mainland counterparts.

The Double Gold Medal and Best-Of-Class awards from the 2023 New York World Wine and Spirits Competition represent exceptional achievement in blind tasting against global competition. These accolades indicate the whisky not only met but exceeded international standards for complexity, balance, and craftsmanship. The 90-point score places it in the 'outstanding' category, suggesting this limited edition expression rivals established international single malts despite coming from a relatively young whisky-producing region.

The tempranillo finishing adds distinctive dark fruit characteristics that complement rather than overwhelm the whisky's base spirit. You'll likely encounter notes of blackberry, plum, and dried fruits, along with subtle tannins that add structure and mouthfeel. The wine's influence also contributes to the 'cigarbox' and spice notes, as tempranillo's natural earthiness and the grape's affinity for oak aging creates additional layers of complexity that distinguish this expression from traditional bourbon or sherry cask-finished whiskies.
