Why do we love this whisky?

In the glass, you'll notice a deep amber hue. The nose is immediately inviting, showcasing a bouquet of dried fruits like figs and raisins, with a backdrop of rich toffee and caramel. There are also delicate notes of spice and a hint of oak that add sophistication.

On the palate, Speyburn 15 delivers a beautifully balanced flavour profile. You’ll experience a luscious mix of dark chocolate, baked apples, and warm spices—think cinnamon and nutmeg. The mouthfeel is creamy, with a satisfying complexity that evolves with each sip.

The finish is long and warming, leaving you with lingering notes of honeyed sweetness and a touch of smoke, which is a delightful surprise. This whisky stands out as a great choice for sipping neat or pairing with dark chocolate or rich desserts. It’s a wonderful example of how maturation can enhance the character of a spirit!

Notes from the maker
To create this charming 15 year old single malt scotch whisky we use both ex-American and ex-Spanish oak casks. Left to steep for a decade and a half, the spirit is endowed with deep rich flavours from the barrels before being combined by our master distillers to produce this splendid Speyside dram.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 15-year barrel ageing allows Speyburn to develop its signature complexity beyond their younger expressions. This extended maturation in oak barrels transforms the spirit's character, creating deeper amber hues and allowing the integration of rich toffee, caramel, and dried fruit flavours. The wood interaction over this period also contributes subtle spice notes and that delightful hint of smoke in the finish, showcasing how time enhances the natural character of Speyside single malts.

Speyburn 15 represents classic Speyside character with its elegant balance and fruit-forward profile, but distinguishes itself with a fuller body and more pronounced dark chocolate notes. While many Speyside whiskies focus on lighter, floral characteristics, this expression leans into richer territory with its creamy mouthfeel and warming finish. The combination of baked apple sweetness with warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg creates a more robust flavour profile than typical regional offerings.

The rich, full-bodied nature of this whisky makes it exceptional with dark chocolate desserts, where the whisky's own chocolate notes create harmonious layers. Its honeyed sweetness and warm spices complement rich desserts like sticky toffee pudding or crème brûlée beautifully. For savoury pairings, aged cheeses or even roasted nuts work well, as the whisky's complexity can stand up to bold flavours without being overwhelmed.

The multiple gold medals and trophy recognition reflect this whisky's exceptional balance and craftsmanship in the competitive single malt category. Awards from prestigious competitions like the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and International Wine and Spirit Competition indicate consistent quality and distinctive character that stands out among hundreds of entries. The judges likely recognised the seamless integration of flavours, the quality of the 15-year maturation, and the whisky's ability to deliver complexity while remaining approachable.

This whisky is crafted to be enjoyed neat, allowing you to fully appreciate the complex interplay of dried fruits, spices, and that creamy mouthfeel that develops over 15 years. Adding a few drops of water can open up additional aromatics and soften the alcohol warmth, revealing more subtle notes. While it's robust enough to handle a single ice cube if preferred, the full flavour profile and long, warming finish are best experienced at room temperature where every nuance can be appreciated.
