McConnell's 5 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish Irish Whisky (no that's not a typo, they've dropped the 'e' in keeping with the original 1776 spelling) has received numerous accolades including winning gold at the The Spirits Business Irish Whiskey Masters in both 2023 & 2025. First aged for 5 years in first-fill bourbon barrels, it's then treated to an ex-oloroso sherry cask finish. This is an incredibly approachable whisky with surprising complexity. Olorosso casks, all specially selected by Master Distiller Graeme Millar, were chosen for imparting rich dried fruit warmth, decadent notes of rum'n'raisin chocolate, and adding depth.

Why do we love this whisky?
Resurrected in 2020, McConnell's has a long, long history in Belfast dating all the way back to 1776. Belfast Distillery Company, the venture behind McConnell’s Irish Whisky, was established with a single goal in mind: restoring the legend, and they’re well on their way. After only just getting started again, they've raised nearly $30 million to build a state-of-the-art distillery and visitors centre in Belfast, and we can't wait to see what comes next.
