Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie has meticulously combined Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks to create a liquid that is fiercely rich, remarkably complex, and profoundly dark. A decadent wave of dark chocolate, sticky dates, toasted walnut, and the rich scent of antique leather are all perfectly wrapped around a texture that's smooth as silk. Why do we love this whisky?
Tucked away in the Valley of Forgue deep in the Scottish Highlands, Glendronach has built a legendary reputation for their uncompromising dedication to sherry cask maturation. To create this stunning 30-year-old expression, the team has to look deep into their historic, earthen-floor warehouses to find casks that survived the distillery's period of closure in the late 1990s. This means the liquid inside is not just exceptionally old, it is a genuine piece of Highland history. Over thirty freezing winters and cool Scottish summers, the spirit slowly breathed in the rich, nutty character of Oloroso and the syrupy sweetness of Pedro Ximénez. The result is a beautifully textured, wildly elegant spirit that perfectly captures the heavy, robust house style Glendronach is famous for, making it one of the most highly sought-after drams on the planet.
