Why do we love this whisky?
Perched at the foot of Mount Fuji, the Gotemba distillery enjoys a unique microclimate that sets Japanese whisky apart from the rest of the world. Sitting 610 metres above sea level, the cool year-round temperatures and heavy mountain fog slow down the maturation process, allowing the spirit to coax deep complexity out of the wood without getting overwhelmed by oak. Pure snowmelt from Fuji's peak filters through porous volcanic rock over several decades before reaching the distillery's deep wells, giving the mashing water an exceptionally soft, pristine purity. It's this precise harmony of altitude, dramatic climate, and volcanic terroir that breathes an unmistakable sense of place into every drop.
