Bladnoch's rich history dates all the way back to 1817, and this 30 Year Old limited release marks a defining moment in the distillery’s long story. Limited to a 950-bottle release worldwide, the weighty bottle comes housed in a luxury carry case. 'Rare Release' falls short of capturing just how special the golden liquid inside the bottle is. Matured in two exceptional casks, Oloroso and Moscatel Sherry, it showcases gourmand notes of apricot turnover pastries, marzipan and warming nutmeg spice, complemented by aromatic Seville oranges and delicate floral notes.

Why do we love this whisky?

Bladnoch is Scotland’s southernmost distillery and often referred to as the ‘Queen of the Lowlands’. Distilled in the 90s, this golden copper-hued single malt has prevailed through three long decades, all the while quietly ageing in a combination of ex-Oloroso sherry and ex-Moscatel casks. A prime example of the virtues of patience, the decades-long maturation process included changes to the distillery's ownership in 2015, making it a rare, never-to-be-repeated, one-of-a-kind piece of Bladnoch history, indeed.

Frequently Asked Questions

This whisky represents a unique piece of Bladnoch's history, distilled in the 1990s and maturing through the distillery's ownership change in 2015. The three-decade maturation period spans different eras of the distillery's operation, making each bottle a liquid chronicle of Scotland's southernmost whisky-making facility. Such extended aging combined with ownership transitions creates an unrepeatable expression that captures the essence of both old and new Bladnoch.

The combination of ex-Oloroso sherry and ex-Moscatel casks creates a complex interplay of sweet and nutty characteristics. Oloroso sherry casks contribute rich, oxidative notes and enhance the whisky's body, while Moscatel casks add honeyed sweetness and floral complexity. This dual-cask maturation over 30 years allows the wood to impart deep flavours of dried apricot and marzipan, while the extended aging develops sophisticated spice notes like nutmeg.

Bladnoch earned this regal title due to its position as Scotland's southernmost distillery and its reputation for producing elegant, refined single malts characteristic of the Lowlands region. The Lowlands style typically emphasises gentle, approachable flavours rather than the intense peat or maritime influences found in other Scottish regions. This 30-year expression exemplifies the sophisticated, medium-bodied character that has made Bladnoch a crown jewel of Lowland whisky production.

This golden copper-hued whisky delivers a sophisticated medium-bodied experience with layers of dried apricot sweetness, rich marzipan depth, and warming nutmeg spice. The three decades of maturation create a harmonious balance where fruit, nut, and spice elements integrate seamlessly. Each sip reveals the patient craftsmanship of extended aging, offering complexity that unfolds gradually on the palate with a long, satisfying finish that showcases the quality of both the spirit and cask selection.

This 30-year-old represents an extremely limited and unrepeatable release due to its specific production timeline spanning the distillery's ownership change. Whisky of this age from Bladnoch is inherently scarce, as it requires three decades of patient maturation with significant evaporation losses over time. The combination of its historical significance, extended aging, and the finite nature of the original 1990s distillation makes this a collector's piece that cannot be replicated in future releases.
