Why do we love this whisky?

(Only one bottle per person due to limited qualities, any additional orders will be automatically canceled)

Visually, it’s a rich amber hue that hints at the adventure ahead. On the nose, prepare for a delightful mix of peat smoke alongside sweet vanilla, honey, and a dash of citrus zest. There’s an intriguing balance here, with a touch of floral notes swirling in the background.

When you take a sip, the flavours come alive! Bold peat greets you first, followed by a luscious wave of dried fruits and gentle spices. It finishes with a satisfying smokiness that lingers, accompanied by a hint of cocoa and a touch of apple.

At 46% ABV, this whisky is a beautiful blend of bold and balanced — perfect for those who love a bit of peat without losing that elegant touch.

Notes from the maker

An initial smoky burst surrenders to a surge of fruitiness. Ripe pears and the citrus notes of apples and limes with just a touch of tobacco in the background. The nose is balanced yet an undeniable smoky sweetness prevails. Taste: Smoke laced with leather and sweet stewed apples. Chocolate is there too, perfectly complemented by sweet vanilla and zesty lemon. The finish has a lingering warmth with a floral smokiness.

Frequently Asked Questions

AnCnoc Peatheart strikes a unique balance between bold peat smoke and elegant refinement that sets it apart from heavily peated Islay whiskies. While many peated expressions can overwhelm the palate, this Highland single malt allows the sweet vanilla, honey, and citrus notes to shine through the smoke. The distillery's approach creates what's often called a 'gentleman's peated whisky' - accessible to newcomers while still satisfying peat enthusiasts.

This reflects the limited production quantities typical of premium single malt releases, particularly those with specific flavour profiles like Peatheart. Single malt distilleries often produce small batches of speciality expressions, and the peating process requires careful timing and specific barley preparation. The restriction ensures fair distribution among whisky enthusiasts and prevents hoarding, which is common practice for sought-after releases that may not be regularly available.

The 46% ABV is deliberately chosen to preserve the whisky's full character without the need for chill filtration, which can strip away flavour compounds. This strength allows the peat smoke, dried fruits, and spices to express themselves fully while remaining approachable for neat sipping. It's strong enough to stand up to a splash of water if desired, which can actually open up additional floral and fruit notes that complement the smoky backbone.

Serve neat in a tulip-shaped glass at room temperature to fully appreciate the complex interplay between peat smoke and sweet elements. Allow it to breathe for a few minutes after pouring - this helps the volatile compounds settle and reveals the underlying honey and citrus notes. A few drops of water can enhance the floral characteristics and soften the peat intensity, while the full-bodied nature means it can also handle a single ice cube for those preferring a slightly chilled dram.

The smoky, meaty character pairs beautifully with rich, savoury foods like aged cheeses, particularly sharp cheddars or blue cheese that can match the whisky's intensity. Grilled or smoked meats work exceptionally well, as do dark chocolate desserts that echo the cocoa notes in the finish. The underlying sweetness also makes it surprisingly good with caramelised onion dishes or even apple-based desserts, creating an interesting contrast with the peat smoke.
