Why do we love this tequila?

The Reposado is made from 100% blue agave slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens, which is then masterfully aged for eight months in ex-bourbon casks.
The nose is a masterclass in aromas. Earthy cooked agave, agave nectar, candied orange peel, and toasty oak, along with subtle notes of hazelnut, clove and vanilla artfully imparted from the American whisky casks. Agave nectar, ripe orange peel and toasted hazelnut follow through on the exceptionally smooth palate, complemented by notes of bittersweet chocolate, cinnamon and clove in the lingering spiced finish.
This is a sipping tequila that inspires thoughtful contemplation and heartfelt celebration of the artisanal human touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clase Azul Reposado stands apart through its meticulous eight-month ageing in ex-American whiskey casks, which imparts distinctive hazelnut, vanilla and clove notes that complement rather than overpower the blue agave character. The slow-cooking process in traditional brick ovens creates deeper caramelisation of the agave sugars, resulting in more complex cooked agave and nectar flavours. This artisanal approach, combined with the Double Gold award from the San Francisco Wine and Spirits Competition, demonstrates exceptional quality that elevates it beyond typical commercial reposados.

This is definitively a sipping tequila meant to be savoured neat at room temperature in a proper tequila glass or snifter to concentrate the aromatics. The medium-bodied profile and complex flavour development from the eight-month cask ageing make it perfect for slow contemplation rather than mixing. Pour a small measure, allow it to breathe for a few minutes, then nose it deeply to appreciate the cooked agave, candied orange peel and toasty oak before taking small, thoughtful sips.

The vanilla and hazelnut notes from the American whiskey casks make this tequila exceptional with dark chocolate desserts, particularly those featuring cinnamon or orange zest. The cooked agave sweetness pairs beautifully with grilled meats, especially lamb or beef with Mexican spice rubs, while the citrus elements complement ceviche or other seafood preparations. For cheese pairings, try aged manchego or other nutty, semi-hard cheeses that echo the hazelnut characteristics.

The Altos de Jalisco highlands provide ideal growing conditions for blue agave, with higher altitude, cooler temperatures and mineral-rich volcanic soil that creates more concentrated, complex agave flavours. This terroir produces agave with higher sugar content and more nuanced character compared to lowland regions, which translates directly into superior tequila quality. The traditional brick oven cooking method used by Clase Azul further enhances these regional characteristics, creating the distinctive cooked agave and nectar notes that define premium highland tequilas.

The eight-month maturation in ex-American whiskey barrels creates the perfect balance between agave expression and wood influence, allowing the spirit to develop complexity without becoming overly oaked. This timeframe enables the tequila to extract vanilla, hazelnut and subtle spice notes from the barrels while maintaining the bright citrus and cooked agave character. The result is a harmonious integration where the wood enhances rather than masks the blue agave, creating the bittersweet chocolate and cinnamon notes in the finish that distinguish quality reposados from younger expressions.
