Why do we love this gin?

A combination of pure home grown botanicals including juniper, coriander seeds, liquorice root and whole lemon set the tone for a flavour sensation. Angelica and orris root is also used throughout distillation to provide individuality and intrigue. Herbaceous, floral, citrussy and framed by a woody spice, this local gin is soft and approachable enough to enjoy straight on the rocks but we reckon it's best served classic; in a highball over ice with your favourite tonic and a wedge of fresh squeezed lemon.

Frequently Asked Questions

East Pole uses home-grown Australian botanicals including liquorice root and whole lemon, which creates a softer, more approachable profile compared to traditional London Dry gins. The inclusion of angelica and orris root during distillation adds floral complexity that balances the juniper, making it less aggressive than classic British styles. This Australian approach results in a gin that's herbaceous and woody-spiced rather than purely pine-forward.

East Pole's light-bodied, soft character makes it one of the few gins genuinely enjoyable neat over ice, thanks to its balanced botanical blend and approachable nature. However, its citrusy and spice-forward profile truly shines in a classic gin and tonic, where the botanicals can interact with quinine and carbonation. The whole lemon and coriander elements particularly complement tonic water's bitter complexity.

The gin features a carefully curated selection including juniper and coriander seeds as the foundation, enhanced by liquorice root for subtle sweetness and whole lemon for bright citrus notes. Angelica root provides earthy depth while orris root adds a powdery, violet-like floral quality that's prized in premium gins. This combination creates layers that unfold from herbaceous to floral to citrusy, finished with woody spice complexity.

A fresh lemon wedge is the recommended garnish since East Pole already incorporates whole lemon in its botanical blend, creating harmonious citrus amplification. The lemon's oils will enhance the existing citrus notes while its acidity balances the liquorice root's subtle sweetness. Avoid competing garnishes like cucumber or herbs that might mask the gin's carefully crafted floral and spice characteristics.

East Pole's herbaceous and citrus-forward profile makes it excellent for citrus-based cocktails like a Gimlet or Tom Collins, where its whole lemon botanicals enhance the drink's brightness. The liquorice root and woody spice elements also work beautifully in a Negroni, adding complexity without overwhelming the Campari and vermouth. However, its soft, approachable nature might get lost in very spirit-forward cocktails like a Martini where a more assertive London Dry would typically shine.
