Why do we love this whisky?
The story behind the Spot Whiskey family is one of Dublin's best kept secrets. Back in the late 1800s, wine merchants Mitchell & Son would empty casks from their wine business, send them to the local distillery to be filled with spirit, and age them in their underground cellars. To keep track of the ages, they simply daubed the barrels with coloured spots of paint. The blue spot meant a seven year maturation. While the original Blue Spot disappeared in the 1960s, it has been triumphantly revived by the masters at the Midleton Distillery. Today, they're keeping that historic merchant tradition alive, blending exceptional pot still spirit with world class fortified wine casks to recreate a true piece of Irish whiskey history.
