Why do we love this whisky?
The 24 Year Old 1997 Single Cask #11862 from BenRiach was hand-selected by Barrie and bottled exclusively for Australia in 2020 as part of the Vintage 1997 Cask Edition, or the ‘sleeping beauties’ as the distillery playfully refers to them.
The almost-quarter-of-a-century spent in new American oak offers up a rich bouquet of vanilla and spice. Heavenly aromas of honey cream and candied coconut waft out of the Glencairn, along with inviting notes of baked apples, sweet oranges and toasty oak. The generous palate unfolds layers of jasmine and bergamot tea, vanilla, caramelised pear, sweet nectarine, and toasted almond. A satisfyingly sublime Speyside single malt; from the very first aromas encountered, to the enduring oak spice finish that lovingly lingers on the palate long after the last sip.
